New Updates

It's been a while since we posted an update on Shane!

9/11/12

Update: Shane continues with the AloeCure and seems to be doing well with it...when I can remember to give it. The neurologist is having us back down the Baclofen and starting a new med. He seems to be doing well with it so far. He isn't biting his hand like he was and seems more flexible during daily exercises. The other day at grandma's house he said "kitty". I thought maybe I was hallucinating the first time... but Glenda stopped mid-sentence and said "Did he just say kitty?" He then said it two more times! Yeah Shane!

8/30/12

First day of PT and ST at Tulsa Sunshine Center done. He did great. In speech, the therapist was getting him to hit a button to make these little cars go around a track. When it would stop, she would say "go" and have him hit the button. It took one time and he had it figured out. He got so excited he would holler "GO!" and hit the button as hard as he could. Then he would laugh like he did something super cool. Little show off!

8/29/12

We started a new product on Shane as of last Friday. It is called AloeCure (from aloe vera juice). Since he started it he has only spit up 2 times ( usually its 3-4 times a day).
Today, we spoke with Dr. Steenblock from California. He has a stem cell therapy center there. The more we have looked into it, the more it seems positive in helping Shane gain more mobility and function. The procedure is not FDA approved (an therefore not covered by insurance), but has had so many positive results. We are going to go sometime before the end of the year. We will have to stay a week while he get injections for 5 days. When we get home he will have to be isolated away from infection/comtaminates/jarring/injury for 3 weeks.
On a side note... Today I set him in the floor while I was getting Sahara ready to go to grandma's. I told Shane that we were going in a few minutes. Next thing I know he has crawled from the middle of the living room to the entry way. I guess he was ready to go!

8/12/12

Shane's results came back from OKC. He definately has reflux (duh!). Doctor says it is bad enough that medication is not going to help (duh!) So we will be refered to a pediatric surgeon for a fundo and possible g-tube. Not that I am happy about it but at this point Shane and I both need some relief.

8/8/12

Regular follow up with Dr. Paul today. Shane is doing good. No results from the test done in OKC. He weighed in a 22 pounds!

8/7/12

Shane just walked with his push walker the lenght of the kitchen with minimal help. And he kept his hands on the walker. I am so proud. Last fall I had to hold his hands on the walker while trying to manipulate each leg to move in it's turn (yes it was exhausting and usually left my back killing me.) I still had to bend over to keep him upright and occasionally move a stuck leg for him... but he did most of it on his own! I am so excited about a new year and new therapy!

7/30/12

oing to OKC in the am for the scope to be placed. He has to have it for 24 hours. On another note... Shane refused to eat his dinner (pureed as usual) last night. He wound up eating up MY chicken leg (the whole thing!) Then he ate MY noodles and alfredo sauce (not cut up!) for lunch. I guess he is just getting to big for that baby stuff! Go Shaner Go!

7/28/12

Update on Shane... Went to the GI doctor yesterday. Next week we are going to have ph test done. The best I can understand, they are going to drop a scope down his nose into his esophagus for 24 hours. It will measure ph level and contractions of the esophagus. It wil tell how much he is really refluxing. The doctor wanted to do this first but was pretty sure we would wind up doing the fundo with g-tube in the near future. Soooo... we are just waiting for the apt next week.

Noodles

Shane got to play a new game today! It was the ring game, but instead of putting the ring on the pole he got to put it on a pool noodle! He also did a really good job of holding his head up while he was sitting up both backwards and forwards. Yeah Shaner!

Hold On Cowboy

Shane did so well today! He always does well, so that is nothing new. Finally back from a no ride week, he was so happy to see his fan club and his horse. He held on to the handlebar for 5 CIRCLES all by himself! That was huge! He also did a good job with holding his head up, especially because Tobi is so bouncy when he walks. So proud munchkin!

Heavy Weight Champ

Shane reached 20 pounds!! Way to go little man! He did well at his lesson yeaterday too. He sat up almost the whole ride and did really well holding his head up. Miss Pam gave him a bunch of beanie babies to hold onto as well. Then he dropped them into a bucket. He seemed to be really interested in that. He is such a hard little worker!

Snuggle Bunny

Just a quick post. Shane did good today even though he didn't seem to feel all that well. He sat up using the handle bar and got to ride backwards. He even played the ring game! I think he was really proud because he held the ring by himself for two whole circles! He always works hard no matter how he feels.

U-N-B-E-L-I-E-V-A-B-L-E!

I am so excited right now!! SHANE DID UNBELIEVABLE!!! He had the whole arena to himself again. He did a whole bunch of new positions too! He started his ride just like every other, on his back, so he could warm up. Then he sat up and had his hands around the surcingle, which for those of you who don't know what that is, I put a picture below. He was doing most of the work himself which was pretty cool to see and he was holding his head up nice and high. He was so proud of himself! Another new thing that we did was the ring game. Miss Pam got Shane a ring to hold, he held on to it for a whole circle, and then put it on the pole! He focused on watching the ring slide down the pole too. Then for a few circles, he sat backwards. At the end of his lesson I finally got him to use his voice to tell his horse to walk on. He just did so good and I'm so proud of him! Way to go Shanerrrr!

Cowboy Shane

Shane had another all star lesson today! He rode Tobi and used the handlebar! He sat up nice and tall, I held his body and Miss Judie held his hands on. He did so good!! I think he liked it too. He looked like a real cowboy! He promised he would be good for the other volunteers on Thursday since I won't be there, so we'll see! He better show off for everyone else!

Squish the Dice

So Shane had the whole arena to himself today! He rode Tobi. I think he really likes Tobi! Now he is eye level with me, which isn't hard to do, but he likes to look around! Miss Pam wanted to try something new with him so he got to ride backwards and squish down a pair of dice. He was really focused on it since this was a new toy for Shaner! He worked hard, as always!

Pants Party

SHANE DID AMAZING TODAY!! He worked so hard holding his head up and looking around. He even got to sit up backwards on his horse! He was just grins and giggles doing that. He seemed to be very fascinated with Seren's tail. Froggy is not his favorite position but he always does such a good job! He also picked up a new nickname...Squeaky! He's working hard on using his voice to tell his horse to walk on so it only seems fitting. Just add it to the repertoire!

Getting in Motion

During Shane's riding lesson today we flipped him like a pancake (which he thinks is just too funny) from his back to his belly. Usually he just works on lifting his head up and moving it side to side but today, he was kicking his legs back and forth and he was using his arms to push himself up to flip his head around. It was the first time I've seen him do that on his horse! It was amazing! He was so motivated today and he was talking and smiling and just a very happy boy!

Valentine's Day Treat

Happy Valentines Day everyone! Shane came to his therapeutic horseback riding lesson all ready to work! And he might have had a couple of valentine's to give out to his fan club as well... What a little gentleman. He got to ride Tobi today and did great! I think he was excited to work with Miss Pam again since they haven't worked together in a while. He did a really good job holding up his head. He even got to do a new trick! He sat up on Tobi but was facing backwards! It works different muscles so that was really cool. He even went into his froggy position no problem. He practically scooted his little legs up there all by himself! He was just showing off, as usual :)

Anticipation

We're all so excited for the bear to come. I still can't believe this is actually happening. NINA DOBREV MADE A BEAR FOR SHANE. PURE INSANITY. This is the greatest thing ever. Plus the fact that I had to put a translator on here so people all over the world can read this is just crazy. We've hit 63 countries so far, and it hasn't even been a week! Once the bear comes I'll be sure to record us opening it up and playing what Nina recorded so all you guys can hear too. Can you imagine how many more countries we'll hit when that video goes up? I can't even imagine. The anticipation is killing me though! Hopefully I'll hear again from Nina's assistant or Mrs. Dobrev tomorrow or Tuesday. Too exciting! Can't wait!

World Wide Fan Club!

I HAVE INCREDIBLE NEWS!!! So in September I sent a letter to Nina Dobrev who is the star of the CW show The Vampire Diaries and who just won a People's Choice Award for Favorite TV Drama Actress as the first-ever written in nominee telling her about Shane and earlier today HER MOTHER TWEETED A PICTURE OF MY LETTER AND SAID...

TALK ABOUT FREAKING OUT. Could it get any better... I didn't think so... until I saw....

CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?! World famous actress, MADE A BUILD-A-BEAR FOR SHANE WITH A RECORDING ON IT JUST FOR HIM. I haven't received anything yet, but I have been in touch with her mother and her assistant!

Nina even retweeted what her mother said!! She has over 1.6 million followers on Twitter... Can you believe how many people have seen Shane?! I've been flooded with messages of well wishes, prayers, and positive energy from people all around the world! Italy, Bulgaria, Germany, etc. And I even received a message from a girl who translated the letter to read it! I think I'll have to make a scrapbook! I'M SO EXCITED RIGHT NOW IT'S KIND OF INSANE.

Celebrate!

What a fantastic way to start 2012! We have officially crossed the $4,000 mark! On June 9, 2011 we made it to $3,000. It's pretty incredible that in only a few short months we raised another $1,000! Thank you everyone for your support and donations. It's greatly appreciated! Shane is doing so well and I know we're all so happy that he can continue to grow and get stronger as well as learn some new tricks on his horse! Remember to check out the fundraiser tab to watch those numbers climb! Soon enough we'll reach our goal of $6,000!
